Welcome to the ranching side of JJD Ranch. We raise cattle and sheep to help maintain our natual sustainable environment and to produce meat. Raising livestock has long been a way of life in this part of Texas. With our relatively mild winters, our roling praires of rich native grassland, and our abundant network of spring fed ponds, this area provides an ideal living environment for cattle, meat producing sheep, and a wide variety of other livestock. We are located just a little to the north and ever so slightly east of Ft Worth. And the rich cattleman / ranching heritage that is so prevalent in Ft Worth extends well into our area.
Our ranching goal is to bring the most authentic tasting and highest in quality and nutritional value meats to both our table and yours. We raise our livestock using the same practices that have been used in this area by ranchers for many many years. Our animals live out their lives happily grazing on our native grassland pastures, and then they go straight to be processed into meats that we make available to be sold. The majority of our sheep are born right here on our ranch. Some of our cattle have also been born here, and we are moving forward with breeding our cattle ourselves. So, you can be assured that the meats you purchase from us have come from animals that have enjoyed lives that are very close to the lives they might have spent in the wild with the exception that we are here to keep them healthy and safe.
We sell grass fed beef by the cut only. We do not sell "sides". Our cattle are processed under Texas State Inspection at our processing facility. The meat is packaged and deep frozen by the facility and then returned to us to use and/or sell. We sell under State of Texas regulations in that we cannot open packages, sell meat that has not been kept hard frozen, or sell across state lines. We keep the meat deep frozen in freezers that are monitored to ensure the meat is kept at or below the required temperature. And, we sell only to people who are available to accept delivery.
We price our meat based on current market value in our area. We price each package of meat individually, but we base our price per package on market value price per pound rather than selling at an exact per pound rate. For example, we sell chubs of ground beef. Each chub weighs roughly one pound, but they are not exact. The processor may pack one chub with 0.98 lbs of meat and another chub at 1.03 lbs. If current market value is $12.00 per pound, we sell our chubs at $12.00 each. We do our best to keep smaller chubs for ourselves, so in most cases, our customers will get either a full pound or slightly over for the $12.00.
You can find our meats along with our current prices by visiting our Our Online Country Store and clicking on Ranch Meats then Grass-fed Beef. If you only want to see what we currently have in stock, you can use the quick link to the Ranch Meats Department. If you want to see everything we typically sell whether it is currently in stock or not, please use the link to the Store rather than the quick link.
